MAA Crafts for Australian Animals!

Our sixth-grade teacher, Mrs. Hall is working with two Facebook groups, the Relief Crafters of America and the Rescue Craft Company.  Each organization posts an updated list of needs and the patterns required for people to knit, crochet, or sew items for the animals.  Items include joey pouches, bat wraps, bird nests, koala mittens, blankets, and several other necessities.  All items we create will be shipped to our regional hub by January 31st, where they will be combined with items crafted by others and then sent on to Australia by container ship and/or plane.

The 6th grade, girls and boys, have been giving up their recess time for two weeks to learn to knit, crochet and loom in order to make Joey pouches to aid the effort.  Students work on their projects during recess and at home - each stitch includes a helping of love and a prayer for the animal's recovery.  As students of a Franciscan school, the children are determined to make the world a better place and to honor the spirit of St. Francis and his devotion to animals.
